You’d need a Christmas holiday to complete this cardboard Gundam

There are many ways to enjoy Gundam. You can sit back and watch the countless anime series depicting the giant robots, play the latest Gundam game, or go out and buy some of the merchandise. If you want to get a bit more involved you can buy the model kits, construct and paint them. Still not enough for you? Then how about creating your very own large-scale Gundam out of cardboard?

We don’t believe there are any instructions for creating the figure you see below. It just takes an intimate knowledge of the mech, a lot of cardboard, a very sharp knife, and a lot of time. I bet this took a few solid days to plan, then there’s the cutting time, and finally the glueing. It’s got to be a few weeks worth of work.

The end result is truly epic, and the creator should be commended for getting this so perfect. The two-color cardboard scheme really works and you don’t need to add color. Although, if you did, and did it well, you could end up with something looking even better. I’m not sure you can get the metallic paint effect on cardboard easily, though.

'Gundam' in China park causes fresh copyright stir

A Chinese amusement park faces the allegation that a landmark statue it erected for the Christmas season is a copy of the Gundam combat robot from the Japanese anime series.

Sotsu Co, the Tokyo company managing the copyright of the sci-fi creation, which is also popular in China, said it has started looking into the origin of the golden statue at the Floraland park in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The park’s operator claims the design was original.

The statue in question is about 15 meters tall and its face and equipment designs are similar to the original Gundam. In Japan, 18-meter-tall ‘‘life-size’’ statues of the character have been erected in Tokyo and Shizuoka, drawing many fans and tourists last year and this year.

China deploys knockoff Gundam statue

China has overtaken Japan as the number two economy, but that hasn't stopped the country's bootleg masters from erecting their own version of the famed giant Gundam robot statue.

Located in the Sichuan provence, the statue will reportedly be part of a new Chinese theme park. Although the height is said to be a bit shorter than the original Japanese version, the bold off-brand orange color and sheer audacity of the construct could be worth a visit to the super playground.

Pirated Gundam on Malaysia Market

recently I saw many post their pirated gundam from popular ads site on Malaysia and wanted to warn the gunpla fans of it, and found suprisingly this issue was raised earlier on by ex-gunpla fan Ngee Kiong on April 25, 2010, and thus would like to share with you guys the development of pirated case gundam on China, which I believe part of China's source as well at Malaysia, afew credit can be given to them is:
1. price are cheap.
2. attractive boxart.

cons are:
1. copyright infringement from the originator of gundam.
2. some part of the plastic might not fit well and some of them are loose.
3. part not found on gundam modelling kits.

So to have an awareness for those gundam fans on our community, I let Ngee Kiong's blogs do the rest:

Finally, Bandai deploys the most direct attack on pirated Gunpla brands: legal action against them.

From a report (in Chinese) by China Legal Publicity on April 23rd, a case was bought before Beijing First Intermediate People's Court on April 21st, where the plaintiff, Bandai (through its representatives) is suing two Chinese companies over their conducts of illegally manufacturing and selling products copyrighted by Bandai, and the products as mentioned specifically referred to Gunpla kits.

It's also mentioned in the report that before the court opened, the plaintiff, with the help from the court's clerks, displayed a cartful of original and pirated models kits for the judges' examination.

Bandai registered Gundam, its product series, packaging and manual printing in the Chinese government's copyright office on May 6th and October 27th back in 2008.

The first defendant is an electronic toy manufacturer based in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, which produced pirated Gunplas under its "TT" brand. The second defendant is a toy distributor based in Beijing named Huang, which sold the pirated products made by the first defendant in large volume. If convicted, both companies must admit, offer public apology, stop the copyright breach, clear its influence and compensate Bandai over their illegal act, which has caused the company huge monetary loss.

The first defendant argued that it *does not* know that the Gundam models are copyrighted by Bandai, and the manufacturing work was actually being contracted to another company, thus denying the accuse of breaching the copyright act. The second defendant, Huang argued that he does not know that the products are copyrighted by Bandai as well. Also, as a mere seller, he denied the responsibility of the copyright breach.

From the 41 items shown before the court, the first defendant *admit* that some of them were being illegally produced by them, but denied the rest (may be produced by other companies).

The court went on for more than 2 hours, and as the arguments became more complicated, the presiding judge rested the court without any conviction, pending it till another undisclosed date.

And so, the war begun. ^^; From the case, it seems that there's no room to escape for the two defendants. The argument of not knowing that the products were copyrighted is worse than a lie told by a 3-year-old. It's almost like they are arguing that they don't know who Bandai is, and being in the same industry (toy and hobby), that's extremely laughable.

The manufacturer of the TT brand has admitted to the production of some of them, but denying the others shown before the court, so if the case goes on, the other pirated brands are going to be investigated as well. The result from this case is going to affect many other companies involved in producing and selling pirated Gunplas, that's for sure.

Information is from China Legal Publicity. Also reported on Xhood Dotnet, China 114 Toy Web, Toys 365. All in Chinese.

Wikiepedia:

Following the establishment of the second Neo Zeon movement, Char Aznable commissioned Anaheim Electronics to produce a custom-designed mobile suit specifically for his personal use. Painted in his trademark red color scheme and insignia, Char utilized the Sazabi as a front-line combat unit to personally lead Neo Zeon mobile suit forces against the Earth Federation Space Force and its Londo Bell subsidiary.

Despite its large size by mobile suit standards, the Sazabi maintains a high level of maneuverability due to a proportionally-high number of maneuvering verniers and lightweight armor materials. It is also heavily armed, including a powerful mega particle cannon in its torso, a variable-output beam shot rifle (a pump-action activates a shotgun-like burst, otherwise functions as a normal beam rifle with semiautomatic fire), and a battery of melee weapons. Its large shield includes space to store a beam tomahawk, as well as three missiles. It is also armed with half a dozen of the same funnel remote weapons as the Jagd Doga.[6] However, the Sazabi`s most notable tool is its Psychoframe, a device created by the Neo Zeon movement to both amplify and better harness a Newtype pilot`s combat capability. In addition to functioning as a standard psycommu system for control of the funnels, it also boosts a Newtype pilot`s ability to control the mobile suit it is mounted in: this translates to a greatly improved reaction time in combat situations, cutting down or eliminating entirely the delay associated with manual controls. Furthermore, the Psychoframe is also capable of more `unforeseen capabilities` that even its pilots do not fully comprehend.[7] Gundam Unicorn confirms that Sazabi`s psychoframe contains Char`s memories, allowing Neo Zeon to use the data and implant Char`s memories into Full Frontal`s mind. Unusually enough for a mobile suit, the cockpit is located inside the head of the unit as opposed to within the torso.

Gundam event in Shizuoka surpasses 1 million visitors

The Shizuoka Hobby Fair, with a display of an 18-meter-tall ‘‘life-size’’ statue of the Gundam robot from the popular animation series, surpassed one million visitors on Saturday. The tally exceeded the expectations of the organizer, the Shizuoka city government, who thought 900,000 people would visit the event during its eight-month period through next March.

Shizuoka Mayor Zenkichi Kojima welcomed a family of four from Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, who set the number over the one million mark at around 1:30 p.m. and gave them Gundam plastic models as commemorative gifts.

How To Pick The Right Gundam Toys?

The Japanese are known all over the world as the original Gods of anime—- short of animation. Coming from a nation suppressed for years together & deprived of food & oil after the World War-II, the Japanese had brought out their desire to be challengers of the world, & their anime series of Gundam Toys or giant robots, created to create destruction & dehumanization of all evil forces in the world, mirrors this sentiment to a large extent. An official Gundam variant, Bandai features the full mecha at 5 ?’ & accompanied by assorted accessories as part of its Gundam Toys Fix Figuration Figure line.

The obsession for the anime series Gundam instigates from the highly admired TV serial “Mobile Suit Gundam” metaseries produced way back in 1979. The imaginary series expected exceptional success after Bandai attained the permit to market toys & accessories based on Gundam’s mecha, or giant war robots. Set up in a story bound universe in the Universal Century 0079, the Zeons come into a complete year war of freedom with the Earth Federation & organize their advanced intentional humanoid weapons, the Mobile suits, against the rivals.

Shaking on the brink of total obliteration, the Federation forces unite under Citizen boy Amur Ray & find out the Federation’s new armory-the RX-78 Gundam, & destroy the Zeons. After their success, the Earth Federation sustained to make their RX-78 more powerful by accumulating extra armor. Gundam is a joint name used for the Universal Century (UC) series similar to Mobile Suit Gundam and series in various timelines, such as Gundam Wing, equipped by Sunrise Inc.
At their full life-like sizes, various Gundam toys are drawn from “Mobile Suit Gundam” meta-series & the subsequent “Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam”, “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny” & a host of other anime sequels, prequel, & side stories produced on the same theme & distributed on TV & home-video formats. When you go close to the toy’s segment in a departmental store, you will be astonished by the ample range of toys obtainable.

At this time, Gundam toys are a most amazing collection. Unlike the super-robots, the Gundams are able to give that realistic touch; realistic science has been used to design the weapon systems & ammunition. In a Gundam-designing competition, students participated against each other to formulate a new pattern of the PF-78-1 Perfect Gundam.

It is intended to use high quality plastic links molded in attractive colors; construction of the Gundam toys is free from glue & come along with assorted levels of building techniques. Intended for 18+ adults, astonishing weaponry systems of the space period, similar to long-distance radar guided cruise missiles, anti-aircraft guns, early warning systems are identified along with as accessories. With additional artillery like cannon beam, rocket packs, reaction tank among others, this Gundam toy plunk tall at 5 ?” & can be renovated according to the choice.

Robot lovers across the world crave for their exclusive collection of Bandai-branded Gundam toys. They can be renovated at various poses & can hold various branded weapon systems from the featured “Mobile Suit Gundam” series. The well-researched & scientifically based Gundam gizmos even locate the position in different space research studies; the “Bio-Suit” for astronauts developed in MIT was named the “Mobile Suit Gundam’s Normal Suit”, while NASA measured the design of Nuclear Thermal Rocket engines on mobile suits in Gundam Universe while carrying out research on them.

Gundam toys are one of the longest consecutively meta-series versions of anime featuring life-sized robots. Scoring 30 years of the Gundam toys authorization, toy-maker Bandai has installed a gigantic 59 foot replica of the RX-78 Mobile Suit Gundam mecha at Tokyo’s Odaiba Shiokaze Park. It has formed a series of one of the most winning brands in the television, novels, video-games & the toys’ segment.

Simple instruction included in a box.

History:

From the Zeon Zaku II, to the Federation`s Hizack, to the Geara Doga of Neo Zeon, and finally to the Neo Zeon remnants` (otherwise `Sleeves`) Geara Zulu. Based off of a general concept that has been tried and true, the Geara Zulu is the latest and most humanoid of the progression. Although its raw specifications are overall better than its predecessor, the Geara Doga, the Geara Zulu has a notably smaller load out. This may be because the Sleeves may not have a complete and legitimate army.

Although an efficient mobile suit, it is obviously outperformed by the ReZEL mobile suits due to both their mobility and firepower.
